A shootout erupted at the end of a chase involving a stolen vehicle in North Hollywood on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A shootout erupted at the end of a chase involving a stolen vehicle in North Hollywood early Friday morning, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

No one was injured in the incident, which involved LAPD officers and a suspect who was armed with a semi-automatic handgun, according to police.

The pursuit began shortly after 2 a.m. and lasted about six minutes before the driver of the Honda exited the sedan, near Fulton Avenue and Sherman Way, and attempted to flee on foot, authorities said.

The suspected gunman was apprehended and a firearm was recovered, police said.

According to the LAPD, officers returned fire after the suspect shot at them first. It was unclear how many rounds were fired in the exchange.

A use-of-force investigation is underway in accordance with protocol, authorities said.
