LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Police say three men were chased down and shot in Los Angeles' Beverlywood area Wednesday.

One victim has died, and the other two victims remain in critical condition.

Shots were fired in the 3100 block of Helms Avenue and in the 8900 block of Helms Place at 9:08 a.m. LAPD Officer Liliana Preciado says a gunman chased the three victims and shot them.

It's unclear if the victims knew each other or the suspects. Two male victims were taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and a third male victim was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

Two suspects remain at large. Three "persons of interest" were detained for questioning.

The LAPD says the shooting appeared to be gang related.

Hamilton High School was placed on lockdown as a precaution, but the lockdown has since been lifted, LAUSD said.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
