2 dead after Pasadena stabbing; family member in custody

PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- A man and woman have died following a stabbing attack in Pasadena Monday morning.

Authorities responded to the 200 block of Madison Avenue at 6:18 a.m. Monday and found a man and woman stabbed in their third-floor apartment. They were rushed to a local hospital, where they later died.

The male victim was identified by his employer as Larry Bressler, director of operations at Chefs Center of California, a commercial food preparation and education center. He was also a well-known local chef and cooking instructor.

"Larry was an esteemed and well regarded member of our team and the community at large. He will be greatly missed," Chefs Center said in a statement.

Police say Bressler called 911 reporting that he and his wife had been stabbed with a knife multiple times by someone related to them. He was able to provide information about the suspect to police, and officers located the person walking about a block away at Madison Avenue and Walnut Street. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

"He had blood on him, which is pretty indicative that he had been involved in an incident," said Pasadena Police Lt. Tracey Ibarra.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital with a minor injury to his left arm. He was identified only as a family member in his 20s.

"We believe that the family member involved in this may have been residing with the victims, even on a temporary basis, so we are still trying to ascertain what conflict happened that resulted in the stabbing," Ibarra said.

A motive for the attack has not been determined. The incident remains under investigation.
