SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The mother of a 3-year-old boy who was found wandering the streets of South Los Angeles has been located, according to Los Angeles police.

Officials said a Good Samaritan spotted the child near 111th Street and Avalon Avenue at about 10:30 a.m.

After a brief search for the child's parents, the woman brought him to the Los Angeles Police Department's Southeast Police Station.

Police said the child was scared, but otherwise appeared to be happy and healthy. Officials original stated the child was 2, but later confirmed he was 3 years old.

Officials held a press conference to ask for help locating the child's parents. Police later confirmed the mother of the child was located.

According to police, the mother said she left the child with a baby sitter when she went to work early in the morning.

LAPD said it's believed the baby sitter went to Lancaster, leaving the child unattended. Police stated they wished to talk to the baby sitter and that charges are possible.

At this time, police confirmed the mother is not considered a suspect.

The child underwent a physical evaluation to make sure he is healthy and remained in protective custody overnight.
