Dozens of people were hurt near Kirbyville, Texas after a school bus with a high school track team on board flipped over Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The bus was traveling east on FM 2013 when its right tires went off the roadway. In an attempt to drive the bus back on the road, the driver over-corrected, which sent it into a skid. It rolled over several times and before coming to rest in an open field, DPS Public Information Officer Stephanie Davis said.

Two people were air-lifted to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. The extent of their injuries was unknown.

The rest were taken to local hospitals by ambulance. Their conditions were not known.
