HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Two Orange County lifeguards went above and beyond to rescue a pair of dogs in distress.

Wes Ewert and Bella Bardeen responded to a report of two dogs stranded on a sand bar at Bolsa Chica State Beach.

Ewert paddled out and caught the dogs, clipped his buoy to the collars to make a leash, and paddled them back to safety.

The dogs were later reunited with their owners by local animal control.
