Lakewood family asks for help to find missing grandma who suffers from dementia

LAKEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- A daughter made a plea for the public's help in the desperate search for her mother, who has been missing since Feb. 1.

"With her being missing, this is just devastating. It is and it's been a nightmare. I have not had any sleep since she's been gone. This is day six," Anna Doss said.

Doris Doss, 84, who is also known as Peggy to her family and friends, suffers from dementia. She disappeared last Thursday and was last seen at a Wescom Credit Union at 120th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard in Hawthorne. She withdrew all of her money.

"That's just a jaw-dropper for us because we always assist her in stuff like that. I just can't imagine her being by herself," granddaughter Morgan Doss said.

That is the big fear. Anna said employees did not notice if Doss was with anyone else at the time. Police are now reviewing the bank's security cameras.

"My fear is that she's out there just by herself, cold, she hasn't had anything to eat, she hasn't taken her medicine," Morgan said.

The mother of eight and grandmother of 50 was last seen wearing jeans, a black and white animal print shirt and red sweater. Her family is terrified of what could happen to her.

"I just miss her. I just want her to come home," Morgan said.

The family is looking for any help they can get. If you know anything about Doss's whereabouts, you are urged to call 911 or the LAPD.
