4 in custody after shooting, hourslong standoff with SWAT team in South LA
SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Four suspects were in custody Thursday morning following a shooting and an hourslong standoff with a SWAT team at a home in South Los Angeles, authorities said.
The incident began shortly before 1 a.m., when five males approached a victim and opened fire, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department's Southwest Division. The victim was not injured.
The assailants ran into a nearby home in the area of 42nd Street and Budlong Avenue in the Vermont Square neighborhood, police said. Surrounding homes were evacuated and the SWAT team, including crisis negotiators, was called to the scene.
Two of the suspects subsequently turned themselves in, the LAPD said, while others remained barricaded inside the residence.
Police fired tear gas into the home, and at about 8 a.m. the remaining suspects were apprehended, said police Officer Aareon Jefferson. Their names were not immediately released.
