MADERA, Calif. -- Four of the five inmates who escaped from the Madera County Jail were taken back into custody on Saturday.

Investigators are still searching for Roel Soliz, 29. They hoped to have him back behind bars very soon.

Officers took the escaped men into the jail one by one in patrol cars. Three of the suspects were patted down and searched after nearly 24 hours on the run. The fourth suspect was apprehended shortly before them.

The breach happened Friday night with authorities reporting one man had escaped. But on Saturday morning, they said the five men broke out of the Madera County Department of Corrections.

Juan Lopez, 30, Abel Ramos, 25, Ricardo Cendejas, 19, and Jorge Lopez-Diaz, 26, were captured on Saturday night.

"They were hiding. These guys were trying to figure out where they're going to go next, just to get out and evade law enforcement," Madera County Sheriff's spokeswoman Erica Stuart said.

Between the four suspects, their rap sheet included armed robbery, carjacking and attempted murder - including the attempted murder of a peace officer.

Now, the Madera County Department of Corrections and allied agencies are searching for the last and final suspect Roel Soliz.

"We hope to apprehend within a short time," Stuart said.

The Madera County Jail is still investigating how the five men were able to breach security. It's unclear if they worked as a team to get out.

The fifth suspect is considered to be armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the Madera County Sheriff's Office at (559) 675-7770.
