HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A 6-year-old boy was killed and three people were injured in a violent car crash in Huntington Beach on Thanksgiving.

Police say a 37-year-old mother and her two kids were driving on Bushard Street when they collided with a Ford Escape at the Yorktown Avenue intersection at around 7 p.m. Thursday.

That's when the family's Mazda 3 spun out of control and slammed into a pole.

Investigators say the 6-year-old boy was in the backseat. He was rushed to University of California, Irvine Medical Center in Orange with major head trauma and later died.

The boy's mother and 11-year-old brother were also transported to UCI Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the other car, a 68-year-old woman from Santa Ana, was transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana with minor injuries. She was interviewed by police and released.

According to investigators, the woman's Ford Escape was traveling eastbound on Yorktown Avenue when it collided with the Mazda, which was traveling northbound on Bushard Street.

The crash remains under investigation by the Huntington Beach Police Department. There were no citations or arrests.
