Alhambra package theft suspect charged with burglary, ID theft, grand theft

ALHAMBRA, Calif. (KABC) -- The infamous Alhambra package theft suspect, who was caught on camera by a homeowner, has been charged on three felony counts.

Rianna Adrienne Medina, 20, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to second-degree commercial burglary, identity theft and grand theft of personal property.

Medina's arrest came after numerous tips from friends and family, Alhambra police said. She was found in a motel in Rosemead Friday, and according to prosecutors, she had checked in using another person's identification.

An homeowner caught Medina in the act of stealing two boxes that were delivered to his front door on May 10. The entire confrontation was caught on cellphone video, which quickly went viral after it was posted on the Alhambra Police Department's Facebook page.

An Alhambra homeowner caught a package thief in the act and recorded the woman as she tried to swipe two boxes from his porch. Police are now searching for the culprit.

Medina told the homeowner that her mother lived at the home, which the homeowner disputed. When he threatened to call police, she dropped the packages on the ground and walked away.

Authorities said what made the crime so egregious was that the victim was an appliance repair man, and the packages were repair parts worth about $1,000.

Medina is due back in court June 3, when a date will be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for her to stand trial.

If convicted, Medina faces a maximum sentence of four years and four months in state prison.
