CORONA, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspect wanted on domestic violence charges was taken into custody Wednesday after an hours-long barricade situation at a Corona residence.

Police and a SWAT unit surrounded the home in the 1100 block of East Grand Boulevard shortly after 3 a.m.

Jason Owens, 32, of Corona allegedly battered his girlfriend and was believed to have at least two firearms in a bedroom, police said.

The suspect was eventually taken into custody at about 10:30 a.m. after authorities deployed tear gas inside the home, where he was believed to be alone.

The victim had visible injuries but is said to be OK.

"The male subject has a criminal history past that resulted in a weapons violation out of Los Angeles County," Corona police Sgt. Paul Mercado said. "He's currently on probation regarding that case and he's also on probation out of Riverside County for domestic battery."

East Grand Boulevard was closed between Garretson and South Victoria avenues, and Corona police were advising motorists to avoid the area.

Lincoln Alternative Elementary and Corona Fundamental Intermediate schools are open.
