AZUSA, Calif. (KABC) -- Hundreds of firefighters are working to contain a 275-acre brush fire burning in the Angeles National Forest north of Azusa.

The Tecolote fire broke out Sunday afternoon and quickly spread across 400 acres near Highway 39 and Mile Marker 28. It forced the evacuation of about 200 people from a campground and recreational areas.

The fire was 40 percent contained as of Monday morning. U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Nathan Judy says the fire was largely reduced to smoking embers.

No residential homes were impacted. One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
