SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An armed man was taken into custody after barricading himself in a home in South Los Angeles for nearly six hours.
Los Angeles police said the man brandished a shotgun at neighbors around 11:30 p.m. Monday. When officers arrived on scene, the man refused to come out of his home at 68th Street and Estrella Avenue.
Approximately 60 area residents were evacuated as a precaution.
After crisis negotiators tried to communicate with the man, officers said they deployed less-lethal munitions on the suspect to get him out of the home. The suspect did not open fire at officers and peacefully surrendered around 5 a.m.
Investigators said the suspect faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
The auditorium of 68th Street Elementary School was open for the residents who were evacuated. Those residents have since been allowed back in their homes.
