BALDWIN PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were investigating Saturday the death of a 61-year-old woman in Baldwin Park after she was found unresponsive during a welfare check.

Baldwin Park police responded to the 3700 block of Idaho Avenue. Upon arrival, police found the woman in her bedroom. She was pronounced dead at the scene, but showed no obvious signs of injury.

A neighbor who called authorities told Eyewitness News that a man was seen running out of the garage with beer and two bags, which prompted concern.

The cause of death was not immediately known, but authorities believe the circumstances were suspicious.

Baldwin Park Mayor Manuel Lozano visited the scene.

"It's a sad day for all of us, especially this particular block because everyone is very close and they do a lot of activities together," Lozano said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
