HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A beach at Huntington Beach reopened Saturday morning after a shark encounter had closed the area.

A surfer told lifeguards that he had bumped into a young great white shark Friday morning, which prompted lifeguards to close part of the ocean from Beach Boulevard to the Pier for the first time in history.

Despite the closure, surfers were scattered throughout the area claiming they did not see the signs. Lifeguards said they would continue to monitor the water for any activity.
