BURBANK, Calif. (KABC) -- A big rig overturned on the southbound 5 Freeway in Burbank Thursday night, spilling gravel onto the roadway and snarling traffic for hours.
The crash occurred just south of Burbank Boulevard at about 11:40 p.m.
California Highway Patrol officials say the driver of the big rig, which was towing two trailers carrying full loads of gravel, lost control for reasons unknown and overturned.
Oil also spilled onto the roadway. The big rig driver was not injured.
The three right lanes of the freeway and the Burbank Boulevard onramp were closed Friday morning as CHP crews worked to clean up the debris.
The closures were lifted shortly after 6 a.m.
