OXNARD, Calif. (KABC) -- An investigation is underway after a body was found at Sierra Linda Park in Oxnard near an elementary school on Thursday morning.

Authorities say the body was found at the park at 1040 Indigo Pl. at 8:43 a.m., along with an extensive blood trail.

"We have a pretty lengthy crime scene," said Oxnard Police Cmdr. Eric Sonstegard.

The victim was described only as a man in his 50s. Investigators say he had traumatic injuries, but the cause of death has not been determined.

Sierra Linda Elementary School, which is next to the park, was placed on voluntary lockdown as police investigated.

Officers canvassed the area, and there was a coordinated release at the school to make sure that parents and children did not head to the park.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Oxnard Police Department at (805) 385-7600.
