Body found in Lakewood storm drain on 605 South

LAKEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- A death investigation is underway after a man's body was found in a storm drain on the southbound 605 Freeway in Lakewood Thursday.

The discovery was made by a Caltrans worker during cleaning and maintenance of the HOV lane at Carson Street around 1:30 a.m. Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau responded to the scene.

Authorities say the body was badly decomposed. The man has not been identified.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the death is not criminal. It's unclear how the body ended up in a storm drain.
