MONTEBELLO, Calif. (KABC) -- A popular family-owned dairy in Montebello that could have been forced to move has been saved thanks to a new project idea for a railroad overpass.

Montebello Councilman Jack Hadjinian announced Monday that instead of creating an underpass and railroad bridges where the Broguiere's Farm Fresh Dairy is, there should be a pedestrian overcrossing and safety gates.

Broguiere's Dairy, located near Montebello Boulevard and Maple Avenue, has been a staple in the city for nearly a century. Under the initial project proposal, the dairy would have needed to be relocated.

More than 250 pedestrians and bicyclists use the Maple Avenue crossing each day.
