SOUTH CARTHAY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A broken pipe caused major flooding at the Ionic Masonic Center in South Carthay early Wednesday morning.

Los Angeles city firefighters responded shortly after 1 a.m. to the 1100 block of S. La Cienega Boulevard, just south of Olympic Boulevard.

A pipe broke between the first and second floors. Water shot out of the building, over the sidewalk and onto the street.

At one point, the ceiling was sagging from all the water pouring out.

Firefighters had to wait for the Department of Water and Power to shut off the water source before they started bailing and sweeping out all that water.

The cause of the broken pipe and the full extent of the damage were not immediately known.
