'Brown Bag Lady' helps LA's needy
Single mom Jacqueline Norvell started out making brown bags of food and hygiene products for the needy on Skid Row and now has an army of volunteers helping out.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A single mom is making sure some of the Los Angeles community's most needy residents have food.

Jacqueline Norvell is nicknamed the Brown Bag Lady. A viewer shared her story with us on our ABC7 Facebook page.

Norvell started making brown bags full of food and hygiene products for people on Skid Row and handing them out from her car. It was just her in the beginning. But now she has a small army of helpers who meet at her Miracle Mile apartment to help.

"I get emotional," Norvell said, reflecting on how much her effort has grown. "It is moving that a single mom in a small apartment - every first Sunday people are lined up waiting for me. Just a regular chick trying to make a difference."

Last month more than 200 people were given backpacks, sleeping bags, toiletries, food and other items.
