Burglary suspect flees after shooting victim in Encino
A burglary suspect fled after shooting a victim who confronted him in Encino on Tuesday, Los Angeles police said.

ENCINO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A burglary suspect fled after shooting a victim who confronted him in Encino on Tuesday, Los Angeles police said.

According to authorities, the victim came home to find the burglar inside his townhome. When he confronted him, the burglar shot him in his leg. Investigators believe the suspect used a semi-automatic handgun.

The incident was reported around 12:45 p.m. inside a gated community in the 5200 block of White Oak Avenue, just north of Ventura Boulevard.

Investigators said the victim was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction after the incident, officials said. The suspect was described as a male in his mid 20s wearing a baseball hat.

Longtime residents told Eyewitness News the complex houses about 150 units and a lot of older tenants, and that armed burglaries in the neighborhood are very unusual.

It's unclear if the suspect fled the scene with any stolen items. Anyone with information on this case was asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
