Trapped bus driver freed from wreckage after crash in Lakewood
A Long Beach Transit bus driver was freed after crashing into a traffic light pole in Lakewood on Wednesday.

LAKEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- A Long Beach Transit bus driver was freed after crashing into a traffic light pole in Lakewood on Wednesday.

The collision was reported at about 6:10 p.m. at Woodruff Avenue and Centralia Street. The bus driver told witnesses that a white pick-up truck turned in front of him, sending the bus crashing into a light pole.

Four passengers on the bus were taken to a hospital, but the driver was trapped in the mangled metal.

A massive crowd cheered as firefighters extricated the bus driver shortly before 8 p.m. He was transported to a local hospital with traumatic injuries.
