GRANADA HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A vehicle slammed into a home in Granada Hills, shearing off a large portion of the residence early Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred shortly before 2 a.m. along Balboa Boulevard. California Highway Patrol officers said they witnessed the driver speeding as he exited the 118 Freeway.

The driver then lost control and slammed into the home. No one inside the home was injured. Fire officials said one person from the car was transported to an area hospital with injuries, but the extent of those injuries was not known.

The homeowner, Antonio Arizo, a volunteer with Ventura County Search and Rescue, said he was startled by the crash but grateful that no one was killed in the accident.

"I've lived here for 35 years and I've sort of kind of expected something like this," Arizo said. "Nobody was in the rooms, looks like none of my personal items were really damaged, and the people in the car were actually able to get out, so that to me, that's actually a good thing, too."

The driver of the vehicle was not arrested. Police said there was no evidence that alcohol or drugs played a factor in the incident.
