SANTA CATALINA ISLAND, LOS ANGELES COUNTY (KABC) -- One person is critically injured after a boat accident near Catalina Island, Los Angeles Fire Department officials said Sunday.

Four people were treated at the scene then transported to Harbor General. The critically injured patient is expected to live, fire officials said. The three other patients are in fair condition. One person is uninjured.

The accident was reported at 6:17 a.m. Five men between 24-35 years old were aboard a small fishing boat. According to fire officials, the boat was travelling at 40 knots when it hit summered rocks in the water, causing some of the men to come out of the boat or be thrown around inside it.

The boaters radioed the Coast Guard. L.A. County lifeguards took the men by boat to LAFD Fire Station 110.
