Chaffey College Rancho Cucamonga campus classes canceled due to investigation

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (KABC) -- The Rancho Cucamonga campus of Chaffey College was locked down Thursday afternoon while authorities searched for a possible threat for approximately two hours.

Campus police and San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies were conducting a search on the campus at about 2 p.m. People on campus were advised to stay in place during the investigation.

Chaffey College tweeted: "Please stay in place or proceed to the closest building. Please follow all law enforcement directions."

Rancho Cucamonga campus classes scheduled after 3:30 p.m. were cancelled due to the investigation, the school tweeted at 2:30 p.m.

A sheriff's helicopter and an Ontario airship were in the air over scene, according to the sheriff's department.

Sheriff's personnel completed a search of the perimeter, and deputies were clearing the campus of students and faculty. Interior searches were continuing, according to a department tweet at 3:10 p.m.

"Class cancellations are for the RANCHO CAMPUS only. Classes at Fontana and Chino to be held as scheduled," the school tweeted.

"The search at #chaffeycollege is complete. The area is clear and nothing located," the sheriff's department tweeted at about 4 p.m.
