Chino standoff: Barricaded suspect surrenders
A suspect who was barricaded inside a home in Chino surrendered to authorities Wednesday morning.

CHINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspect who was barricaded inside a home in Chino surrendered to authorities Wednesday morning.

Police say the incident started around 1:15 a.m. as a high-speed pursuit in Ontario. Officers attempted to pull over the driver of a reportedly stolen vehicle in the area of North Cucamonga Avenue and East 4th Street, but the driver took off.

The chase ended when the suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Robert Jesse Perea, crashed into another vehicle near his home at 5th and D streets. He fled on foot and barricaded himself inside his residence.

A SWAT team responded to the scene and evacuated nearby homes as the standoff unfolded. After about an hour, Perea exited the home with his hands up and surrendered to authorities.

He was arrested without further incident and booked at the West Valley Detention Center for vehicle theft, felony evading and an outstanding no bail parole hold warrant for vehicle theft.
