COMPTON, Calif. (KABC) -- Sheriff's deputies opened fire on two robbery suspects in Compton Wednesday night, injuring one man. A search is underway for the second suspect.

Authorities say deputies were driving in an alleyway when they came across two suspects wearing ski masks, running in the opposite direction.

When one of the suspects turned toward the deputies with a handgun, a deputy-involved shooting occurred just before 11 p.m.

One suspect was rushed to a local hospital in stable condition. A second suspect fled the scene and has not been located.

A handgun was recovered at the scene. Investigators say the suspects may have been involved in a robbery at a business in the 700 block of Compton Boulevard.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
