LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An investigation was underway after Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man who allegedly stabbed another man in South Los Angeles.

Deputies responded at about 7:15 p.m. Saturday to the 1100 block of West 75th Street. Upon arrival, they found a man with stab wounds to the head. The victim managed to direct deputies to the suspect at the back of a home, officials said.

When deputies approached, the suspect - identified by family as 28-year-old Johnny Martinez - was armed with a knife and attempted to assault them. Deputies used a Taser and spray, but Martinez continued to come forward, officials said. Four deputies then fired multiple rounds at the suspect, killing Martinez.

Martinez's sister Lousiana Medina said her brother was diagnosed with schizophrenia when he was 18. She alleges that Martinez put his knife down when police asked and that police shot him 20 times in their backyard.

"There was no Taser. Nothing. They're lying," Medina said. "They changed the story."

The stabbing victim was taken to a hospital in unknown condition. No deputies were injured.
