COSTA MESA, Calif. (KABC) -- A 10-year-old boy was one of two people hospitalized after a street-racing crash in Costa Mesa Monday night, police said.

According to investigators, the SUV that the boy was riding in was racing another vehicle when it crash at the intersection of Placentia Avenue and Wilson Street around 10:30 p.m.

Police say two vehicles were racing at speeds up to 80 miles per hour. One vehicle ran a red light and crashed into a third vehicle, not involved in the race. The SUV crashed into a fence and ended up against a tree, just barely missing a house.

The other vehicle involved in the race, described as a silver or gray pickup truck, fled the scene. So far, no arrests have been made.

Authorities say there were seven people in the SUV. The boy and an adult were transported to the hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known, but authorities say the boy's injuries were not life-threatening. One other adult was treated at the scene. According to investigators, the 10-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt, but he was not ejected.
