COVINA, Calif. (KABC) --A Covina woman was sexually assaulted by a masked man while walking home to her apartment, according to Covina police.
The incident happened June 30 in the 1300 block of West San Bernadino Road. The surveillance video is now being released.
The woman was coming home around 4:30 a.m. when the suspect followed her into her apartment complex, Sgt. Jim McDonough of the Covina Police Department said.
The apartment's surveillance cameras captured the man pausing to put a bandanna over his face before he attacked her, McDonough said.
"She continued walking, she was grabbed from behind, the suspect began groping her breasts and crotch area, at which time a brief struggle ensued. She fell to the ground and she was able to bite the suspect's finger," said McDonough.
Surveillance video then shows the suspect running as fast as he can to get away. He jumps over a fence, falls for a moment, then takes off down the street.
Neighbors, who asked not to be identified due to safety concerns, said they'll never forget the sound of the attack.
"I heard the screams before my alarm went off, that's what woke me up. Horrible sounds, horrible screams," said one neighbor.
Patricia Hernandez, who lives across the street from the apartment, said the video is frightening.
"My gosh, that is the scariest thing, especially that this man came behind her. That is really scary!" she said.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Covina Police Department.
