Coworkers helping woman who was shot during Redlands hostage ordeal

REDLANDS, Calif. (KABC) -- Nearly a month after a woman was taken hostage by her ex-boyfriend in Redlands and accidentally shot by police, coworkers are trying to help her heal and pay medical bills.

Kristin Bauer, 28, was shot by SWAT officers on March 24 as they killed her ex-boyfriend, Andrew Mike.

The officers feared Mike was about to shoot Bauer, following a three-hour standoff in which he held her at gunpoint after kidnapping her from the Office Depot store where she works as a copy manager.

Bauer was airlifted to a local hospital after suffering a single gunshot wound, which caused damage to her lungs, liver and diaphragm.

Coworkers have started a GoFundMe page to help Bauer heal. They also held a fundraiser at a restaurant in Redlands.

"She is trying to focus on healing," said Office Depot manager Shelley Marquis. "I know that she is in a lot of pain. I know she'll be in a sling for at least a few months and probably not back to work for six months."

Another fundraiser is being planned for May 1 at Brew Rebellion in San Bernardino.
