DANA POINT, Calif. (KABC) -- A search for a missing swimmer near Salt Creek Beach turned into a recovery effort Saturday, authorities said.

The Coast Guard tweeted that it launched a helicopter to assist in the search shortly after 12 p.m. A boat was later sent.

A Newport Beach lifeguard confirmed the search in the 33333 S. Pacific Coast Highway.

The search comes amid a high surf advisory issued for Los Angeles and Orange county beaches.
