SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies arrived at a South Los Angeles home just in time to rescue an elderly couple from their burning home.

Authorities say the residents, who are in their 80s, are expected to be OK and suffered only minor injuries.

Authorities responded to the 1000 block of West 90th Street at about 3 a.m. Friday. Deputies spotted smoke from the fire before firefighters arrived and spotted an elderly man trying to help his wife out a window.

"(The deputies) assisted him out, and they actually went into the window, got the female patient and brought her out," said LAFD Battalion Chief Henry Rodriguez.

The couple was taken to a nearby hospital. The woman had minor smoke inhalation, and her husband had minor cuts.

The fire is believed to be sparked by something electrical. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.
