DOWNEY, Calif. (KABC) -- An 18-year-old man is dead and four other people are injured after a crash between a minivan and a big rig in Downey.

The crash happened shortly before 10:45 p.m. Friday on Lakewood Boulevard, north of Florence Avenue.

According to police, a 19-year-old man from Downey was driving southbound on Lakewood Boulevard in a 1997 Chevrolet Astro van when the car veered into the back of the big rig, which was stopped in the left turn lane.

The van became wedged underneath. Crews had to call in a tow truck to lift the semi off the van.

An 18-year-old man from Downey who was riding in the van was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Isaac Antonio Marroquin.

The driver of the van and three other passengers, including a young woman from South Gate and two other young men from Downey, were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 52-year-old male driver of the big rig was not hurt.
