SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An elderly man died and two women were critically injured after a hit-and-run crash at a South Los Angeles bus stop Monday night.

The crash happened near 54th and Figueroa streets at about 6:45 p.m., according to Los Angeles Police Department officials.

Los Angeles Fire Department officials said three people were critically hurt and one other person declined transport to a hospital.

Those critically injured were identified as a man and woman, both in their 70s, and a woman in her 50s, police said. Authorities initially described the victims were members of the same family; a police spokesman later said that information could not be confirmed.

LAPD Media Relations officials said the elderly man subsequently died from his injuries.

A driver crashed his vehicle and caused another vehicle to plow into the three victims, according to officials. The suspect then ran away, and police said the driver of the second vehicle stayed at the scene.

The suspect remained at large.
