Elderly woman, dog killed in Long Beach house fire

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- An elderly woman and her dog were killed in a fire at a Long Beach home Wednesday night, police said.

The blaze was reported at a single-story residence in the 2300 block of Daisy Avenue at about 9:20 p.m.

About 29 firefighters knocked down the fire in less than 10 minutes. Rescuers then searched the home and found the woman's body in the living room.

Two dogs were also found. One of the two dogs was pronounced dead and the second dog was turned over to Long Beach Animal Control officers.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
