SAN PEDRO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Two adults and their two children were sleeping when a fire broke out at their apartment in San Pedro.

The blaze began shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday in the 900 block of West 25th Street.

The father said he woke up to the sound of breaking glass. When he went to check, he found something burning inside a bag in the apartment.

All four people and the family dog were able to safely escape.

Forty-six firefighters knocked down the flames in about 20 minutes. One firefighter was injured, but was taken to a hospital in good condition.

It was unclear if the unit had functioning smoke alarms. Arson investigators were looking into the cause of the fire.
