Fan Who Died After Fall at Braves Game 'Incredibly Passionate'

A 60-year-old man who died after falling from the upper deck into the lower-level stands at Turner Field during a game between the Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees was a longtime season ticket holder and "incredibly passionate Braves fan," the team said today.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Gregory Murrey, of Alpharetta, Georgia. The game Saturday night wasn't delayed while medical personnel treated him for about 10 minutes and applied CPR.

Police said Murrey was pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital. Police don't suspect foul play.

"The Atlanta Braves are deeply saddened by the loss of Greg Murrey at last night's game," the Braves said in a statement. "Greg was a valued and longtime season ticket holder and an incredibly passionate Braves fan. This tragic loss is felt throughout Braves Country, and the thoughts and prayers of the entire Braves organization continue to go out to his family and friends."

No other fans were hurt when Murrey fell.

Witness Adam Staudacher said it appeared Murrey landed head-first on a walkway.

"There were a ton of kids right there," he said. "It was a disturbing scene."

This was the third death from a fall at Turner Field in eight seasons.
