DUARTE, Calif. (KABC) -- A woman was assaulted while running on a popular trail in Duarte and authorities are now searching for her attacker.

The attacked happened early Sunday morning near Royal Oaks Drive and Oak Avenue. A man was hiding behind some bushes and accosted the woman from behind as she was jogging, grabbed her in a bear hug and tried to drag her to his vehicle, police said.

The woman, in her 50s, fought the man off and suffered minor injuries. The attacker fled in a tan four-door sedan.

Authorities say attacks like this are rare in that area. Some safety advice from police included running in pairs, keep aware of surroundings and only wear one earbud to be able to hear activity around you.
