Food meant for homeless kids stolen from OC charity's shed
The cupboards at Grandma's House of Hope are now bare after thieves broke into their shed, stealing 1,500 pounds of food meant for homeless kids

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (KABC) -- The cupboards at Grandma's House of Hope were bare after thieves broke into their shed Wednesday, stealing 1,500 pounds of food meant for homeless kids.

The food -- about 5,600 meals -- was going to be packed on Saturday for distribution.

Founder Je'net Kreitner says this is the second time the shed in Garden Grove was broken into this week, but not a lot was taken the first time.

"We kind of just chalked it up to, well they needed it more than we did," she said.

But this time around, the thieves left Grandma's House of Hope and the kids it provides for with virtually nothing.

Anyone who wants to donate can go to their website, http://grandmashouseofhope.org, or call (714) 558-8600.

UPDATE: On Saturday, Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County donated 1,940 pounds of food to Grandma's House of Hope, in time for volunteers to pack it for distribution. Members of the community also stepped up to fill in the need.
