VAN NUYS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A known gang member was charged with the murder of a Target worker who was cleaning the store's parking lot in Van Nuys.

Erick Renteria, 24, was charged with one count of murder, possession of a firearm by a felon with a prior and two counts of resisting an executive officer. He pleaded not guilty on Thursday.

On July 22, Renteria allegedly stabbed and fatally shot Francisco Miguel, 48, while he was pressure washing the parking lot at Hatteras Street and Sepulveda Boulevard. Miguel was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

If convicted, Renteria faces a maximum of 53 years-to-life in state prison.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled on Aug. 4.
