Police said a woman was killed after she was backed over by a garbage truck in Garden Grove.

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (KABC) -- A woman was killed after being run over by a garbage truck in Garden Grove on Tuesday, according to police.

Garden Grove police said the incident happened on Euclid Street just north of Acacia Parkway near Garden Grove High School at about 11:30 a.m.

Authorities stated the woman, believed to be in her 70s, may have been suffering from a medical condition or stumbled and fell when she was run over by the truck.

"It looked like she might have fell underneath the back tires of the truck," Lt. Bob Bogue with the Garden Grove Police Department said.

Police said the driver of the truck, owned by Republic Services, pulled over and tried to help the woman, but she had already died.

There was a witness to the incident, according to police. The area was closed off to traffic as police investigated the scene.

Officials were trying to identify the woman.
