HESPERIA, Calif. (KABC) -- A Hesperia Unified School District employee was arrested for committing lewd acts with a 15-year-old girl for at least a year, San Bernardino County sheriff's officials said.

On Aug. 14, deputies began investigating the allegations. The next day, deputies arrested 28-year-old Adrian Toriz, who was booked for lewd acts on a child and oral copulation with a minor.

Toriz worked as a campus assistant at Ranchero Middle School and a walk-on coach at Sultana High School, district officials said.

The district has placed Toriz on paid leave and has banned him from school grounds pending the outcome of the investigation.

"While the facts of the case remain to be determined, we want to assure our community that we place the highest priority on student safety, well-being and privacy and in assisting law enforcement in gathering the facts to ensure that justice may be served," Superintendent David McLaughlin said in a statement.

Toriz is being held in lieu of $750,000 bail.
