Immigration reform supporters rally in DTLA as Supreme Court reviews issue

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Supporters of President Barack Obama's immigration programs rallied in front of the federal building in downtown Los Angeles Monday morning.

As the Supreme Court listened to arguments over the programs, local supporters said families would be separated from one another without the help of the deferred action initiatives, which could affect as many as 4.5 million people who are undocumented in the country.

In San Bernardino, those opposing the immigration actions will rally together Monday afternoon. Those against the reform believe Obama may have overstepped his boundaries with the executive order.

"We are calling upon the American people to stand up and take a stance for the American workers, the American people. We say put America first - not those here illegally," said Robin Hvidston, executive director of a group called We the People Rising.

With only eight members on the Supreme Court, a 4-4 decision on the issue is a possibility. If that were to happen, it would then revert to a lower court ruling that would overturn Obama's actions.

The Supreme Court's decision on Obama's programs is not expected until June.
