JEFFERSON PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Los Angeles Police Department hopes surveillance video will help catch the arsonist who set a vehicle on fire in Jefferson Park early Monday.

The incident occurred outside a music studio rental space in the 4700 block of W. Jefferson Boulevard at about 2:30 a.m.

The arsonist was caught on video, putting some items under a silver 2001 Volkswagen Beetle and then lighting them up. Moments later, the vehicle bursts into flames.

The suspect then goes back to the scene after firefighters leave. Video footage shows him stealing items from the burned vehicle and out of nearby vehicles in the area.

"We thought that it was a safer community, and instead this kind of stuff has been happening in the past few months and it's definitely not reassuring," said musician Vincenzo Marranca.

Anyone with information about the suspect was urged to contact police.
