KOREATOWN, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man in his 20s was found dead Wednesday night after a fire broke out in a four-story apartment building in Koreatown.

The fire began at about 6 p.m. in the 200 block of South Normandie Avenue. More than 50 firefighters were dispatched to knock down the fire, which was confined to one of the building's 36 units.

The man killed had just moved with his family from Bangladesh. He had only lived in the apartment for about a month.

The last structure fire in Los Angeles that killed a civilian was 87 days ago, the longest span this year. On Wednesday night, firefighters walked door-to-door in the area to give away free smoke alarms and safety literature.
