LANCASTER, Calif. (KABC) -- A barricade situation in Lancaster came to an end Monday morning after an armed man was taken into custody.

A SWAT team responded to a home on Avenue H7 across from 10th Street West, where a man with a gun was holed up since around midnight.

Deputies said the man was armed with a gun, but there was no one else inside the home. His mother was able to make it out safely.

Surrounding neighbors were evacuated but they've since been allowed back to their homes.

It remains unclear why law enforcement initially responded to the homes.
