LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A man who allegedly set a Long Beach gas station pump on fire was taken into custody Wednesday, police said.

Long Beach firefighters responded to a call about the fire at about 2:30 a.m. in the 6400 block of Pacific Coast Highway. The suspect allegedly purchased gasoline and a lighter, set the pump on fire then fled the scene, officials said.

The gas station attendant managed to put the fire out.

Firefighters also found a brush fire near the gas station when they responded to the call. Police are investigating whether the suspect set that fire too.
